Review: Crazy For You
Taken From The Kidderminster Shuttle March 31st 2011
THIS may be an old, somewhat dated show but how great to hear those wonderful Gershwin songs such as Embraceable You, Someone To Watch Over Me, They Can’t Take That Away From Me and many more.
Kathryn Knight was the star of this production with her superb performance as Polly Baker and she was well supported by Julian Richards as Bobby.
Emily Wyer and Emma Paine were excellent as the sensible Tess and the somewhat scatty Patsy, while Jill Parmenter and Pat Scully were brilliantly cast as Bobby’s erstwhile fiancee and his mother, respectively both stealing scenes unashamedly.
Another star of the show was never seen on stage – Wendy Richards, who has done a remarkable job with the choreography.
The ensemble items were tremendous – it cannot have been easy to organise so many people on that small stage, but production numbers such as “I Got Rhythm” were outstanding.
The cowboy trio needed to be careful they were all singing in the same key and the mirror scene needed a bit of work on the first night, but now I’m nitpicking.
Congratulations to director Nigel Preece and the entire cast, for yet another great evening’s entertainment at The Rose
