NODA Review: Fiddler on the Roof

Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Society
Fiddler on the Roof

Director: John Jones
Musical Director: Barry Hipkiss
Choreographer: Kathryn Knight

Venue: Rose Theatre, Kidderminster

A ‘big’ show like this is difficult to present on a small stage but the problem was overcome minimal scenery and deft changes. Playing “Tevye” for the third time Nigel Preece looked perfectly at home in the role and “Golde”, his wife, Jill Parmenter, also excelled.
Principals were well cast and the show’s pathos and humour was well conveyed. The ‘Dream Scene’ was very well done with Pat Scully, “Fruma Sarah”, and “Grandma Tzeitel” Julie Stanley, excellent. Other outstanding principals were “Motel”, Chris Paine and Salli Hunt, “Tzeitel” as were the whole Company including musicians and off stage.
